These lucky Vernon Township High School students had the good fortune to chat with British poet Alice Oswald outside the New Jersey Performing Arts Center during the biennial Dodge Poetry Festival. They were among 4,000 students who traveled from seventeen states to spend the day with these accomplished artists. Ms. Oswald, who traveled from Devon, English for the event, bases much of her poetry on ancient Greek literature, which struck a chord with these students who are currently studying Homer’s Odyssey. Pictured from left, front row, Rich Veen, Alice Oswald, Rochelle Slockbower, Brooke Stanton. Back row, from left, Paul Doumanis, Robert Martis and Dana Catalano. They are English and Creative Writing students of Mrs. Weyant’s, who organized the field trip.
